Is it only me that has constant trouble composing and writing here? Every time,and i mean EVERY. FUCKING. TIME. i try to respond to someone’s article or comment ,the cursor jumps wherever the hell it likes.
I’ll be happily writing something and suddenly it decides to move the cursor somewhere else,screwing up the words.Or wiping out words. Or the cursor just dissapears !!! WTF GUYS?
How can you not get this right? HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT TO DO THIS SIMPLE THING?!!!!
HOW COME WE HAVE LESS CONTROL OVER OUR WRITING THAN A CAVEMAN USING A CHARCOAL STICK???????

That happens to me sometimes when I’m typing on my laptop. It’s because my hand happens to touch the trackpad. But it never happens to me on the desktop.

I had some issues with a jumping cursor. Turns out that I was hitting the trackpad on my laptop with my thumb. I always use a mouse, so I disabled the trackpad. Problem solved.

Happens to me all the damn time when I’m on my phone. Fortunately, I haven’t had that happen yet on my laptop.

I only have this trouble in internet explorer. And it has gotten better over time. No issues with Kinja at all when I am on a device that I can use Chrome or Firefox.

Hey. Add a “kinja help” tag to this post and Ernie or someone else on the tech team will see this and try to help you out. They’re usually pretty good (and pretty quick) about troubleshooting problems. As much as everyone bitches about kinja, they don’t actually want it to be an unworkable mess. Good luck!

Yeah, I have a lot of issues replying. But holy-hell, trying to transfer over a full-article from word is a rage-inducing process (even when it’s just a plain text document).

It’s a bit late now, but are you using a laptop? Because I had a similar issue (although it was all the time and not merely on Kinja, it affected my typing no matter what) that turned out to be a fault in my never-touched laptop trackpad

I’ve been having the same issue for at least a year, on multiple computers. Lately, it seems that the cursor always jumps to the beginning of the comment, in the middle of typing.

Like you, I’ve found that it doesn’t matter whether I’m using a mobile computer with a touchpad (I’ve had similar issues with cursor jumping that was due to brushing the trackpad with my palms). It has happened to me three times so far in this comment, and I’m using my work computer which just has a basic USB mouse and keyboard.

It appears it may be related to some script in the comment system which forces the element to refresh periodically, or at a certain character count, or something. It’s like there is something telling it to follow an initiation script which updates the element, but which also includes a command to place the cursor at position 0, which is the behavior you would want when initiating a comment. Perhaps it’s a holdover from some copied code that was meant for a system in which replies include the text of the original message—because in that scenario you would want to explicitly tell the element where to place the cursor due to the existence of quoted text in the box when it’s created.
